Regina, April 26, 2004 – SaskTel International's success on the world stage continues with three announcements. SaskTel International has begun work on a new $650,000 infrastructure project for Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL). The Canadian Minister for International Trade has written a letter and awarded a plaque to SaskTel International recognizing the SaskTel subsidiary's success in working with international financial institutions to complete telecommunications projects in developing countries. And SaskTel International has been awarded a $250,000 contract to conduct a comprehensive assessment of rural telecom infrastructure in Ukraine . SaskTel International has been awarded a contract worth $650,000 by TTCL to complete a network infrastructure project in Tanzania . SaskTel International will undertake the full rehabilitation of TTCL's outside plant network in the cities of Dar es Salaam and Arusha. The project was started April 1, and will take about three months to complete. All of the work will take place in Tanzania, with two SaskTel International employees working on site. “This contract marks SaskTel International's fifth contract with TTCL and the eighth contract in Tanzania ,” said Maynard Sonntag, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “Contracts such as this allow SI to deliver world-class network consulting and project management services to Tanzania , while bringing revenue back home to benefit the people of Saskatchewan .” Canadian Government Recognizes SaskTel International Achievements The Government of Canada recently recognized SaskTel International's achievements in improving and expanding telecommunications in Tanzania . In a letter to the President of SaskTel International, Garry Simons, International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew congratulated SI for working successfully with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the World Bank and other international financial institutions to bring Canadian expertise to Tanzania and other nations. “The projects your firm implements in developing countries contribute not only to the development objectives of those countries, but also to creating jobs in Canada and promoting Canadian values internationally,” said Pettigrew. “We are very pleased with the support and encouragement SI has received from the Government of Canada,” said Simons. “SaskTel International will continue to seek out new projects that allow us to share our expertise in countries around the world, while bringing important revenues back to Saskatchewan .” Since 1986, SaskTel International has generated $58 million worth of contracts in East Africa alone, with total worldwide revenues of $476 million, and total profits of $116 million. SaskTel International to Provide Rural Ttelecom Assessment to Ukrainian Government The World Bank and the Government of Ukraine, with financial assistance from CIDA, have retained SaskTel International to conduct a six-month, $250,000 assessment of the rural telecommunications environment in Ukraine . The assessment will include recommendations on how to maintain and improve rural telecom-related services, including Internet access. “Like the province of Saskatchewan , Ukraine has a widely dispersed population, which makes the provision of telecommunications services very challenging,” said Sonntag. “This is an excellent opportunity for SaskTel International to combine SaskTel's homegrown rural telecom expertise with SI's extensive international experience, to the benefit of the people of Ukraine , and the people of Saskatchewan through important new revenues.” ABOUT SASKTEL INTERNATIONAL SaskTel International provides engineering consulting, project management, and software solutions around the world.
