Telecommunications Project for Tete Province

Name of Client: Telecommunicacoes de Mocambique
Location: Tete Province, Mozambique
Start Date: June 2004
Completion Date: Ongoing

Description of Project:
Telecommunicacoes de Mocambique (TDM) entered into an agreement with the Arab Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BADEA) to fund a tendered project for the supply of switching equipment, PDH transmission equipment, point to multi-point transmission network and outside plant access networks as well as provide all site civil works for approximately 50 sites within Tete Province Mozambique. The tender called for a new backbone transmission network as well as rural radio networks to connect all major centers within the province to the provincial capital and main switching center in Tete city. Initially additional switch additions and modifications were required but these requirements were later dropped and were covered under a separate project.

The project was split into two phases, with the first phase being approximately 30 sites and funded approximately 85% by BADEA and 15% local funding required to be supplied/provided by the Government of Mozambique and/or TDM (and in particular relating to the access network). The second phase funding is still under discussion/negotiation and SaskTel International has a commitment from TDM to be contracted to complete phase 2.

Description of Services:
SaskTel International was awarded the contract by TDM to design, engineer, procure, construct, and commission a microwave backbone network and rural radio systems along with external line plant access networks, site civil works (including towers, shelters, power plants and accessories for phase 1 of the project. This covers approximately 30 sites and is to be completed in 11 months.

SaskTel International is responsible for all aspects of the project from start to finish. The project is currently underway and proceeding according to plan.
